Do you, your partner, or loved ones ever experience insomnia? If so, there is a simple technique known as the ‘Brazilian Toe Massage’ that can help alleviate the condition. It takes anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to complete the process and can be shared with your friends and loved ones. All you need is 10 fingers and 10 toes.
The Brazilian Toe Massage was introduced in 1980 at the Touch For Health International Convention by Brazilian Jose De Aragao who had been introduced to the technique by Phillip Crockford who in turn learned it at a Tibetan Buddhist Center in Queensland, Australia. It is intended to deeply relax the body and can also relieve nausea, digestive disturbances, and pain.
It’s quite easy to administer. Have your partner lay down in a supine position (face up), with bare feet. You should clean their feet with Antibacterial cleaner beforehand. Ask them if they are comfortable and advise them to try to relax. Next, make sure you are comfortably seated at the foot of your partner. Your comfort factor is important due to the sustained position you will be maintaining during the process.
First, lightly touch both your middle fingers on the middle toe nails of the receiver with your thumbs pressed below the middle toes. Each toe will held for 1-3 minutes. Proceed to the ring fingers pressing the ring toe nails, then pinky fingers to pinky toe nails, then index fingers to index toe nails. You will hold your thumbs below all toes including the big toe. There is a slight deviation on the final step when you get to the big toe. Hold the index fingers and middle fingers on top of the big toe nails with your thumbs pressed to the bottom of the big toes. If administered properly, the end result will be a deep state of complete relaxation and many times your partner will be asleep before you are done.
The Brazilian Toe Massage can be utilized while performing massage therapy or reflexology as a relaxation tool as well. You will not need to hold each toe for up to 3 minutes in this case since the client is already in a relaxed state. Simply shorten the time frame on each toe. Hold the the first three toes for 30 to 60 seconds. Hold the index toes for 15 seconds longer than the first 3 toes, and the big toes 30 seconds longer. Since the Brazilian Toe Massage can also relieve digestive disturbances, nausea, and pain; it is applicable for clients with conditions other than insomnia. Results and client feedback can be dramatic once the technique is refined.
Step 1: Lightly touch both middle toe nails with your middle fingers and your thumbs pressed below the middle toes for 1-3 minutes.
Step 2: Proceed to the ring fingers pressing the ring toe nails with your thumbs pressed below the ring toes for 1-3 minutes.
Step 3: Next lightly touch your pinky fingers to pinky toe nails with your thumbs pressed below the pinky toes for 1-3 minutes.
Step 4: Then lightly touch the index fingers to index toes nails with your thumbs pressed below the index toes for 1-3 minutes.
Step 5: When you get to the big toe, you will hold the index finger and middle finger on top of the big toe nails with your thumbs pressed below the big toe for 1-3 minutes.
