Skin needling, what you need to know

The treatment is performed using an automated “pen” which deploys 12 tiny needles at lightening speed through the dermal layers. The needle depth is adjustable between 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm. The internal motor of the Dermapen™, powered with revolutionary AOVN™ technology, causes the needles in the Dermapen™ tip to oscillate at a rate of close to 110 revolutions per second. After the tiny needles create microscopic punctures in the skin, the subsequent healing process is accompanied by a boost of collagen. It’s this formation of new collagen that’s responsible for the visible skin improvements.

The second skin needling benefit occurs immediately after the procedure. The micro-channels create a direct path for active ingredients to penetrate to the deepest layers of the dermis to deliver targeted anti-aging results. Some popular skincare products that may be applied post skin needling are vitamins, antioxidants, hydrating serums and skin-brighteners.

Who is the Perfect Candidate for Skin Needling?

Most women and men are good candidates for collagen induction therapy because it’s minimally invasive, doesn’t cause significant skin trauma and has little downtime.

What to Expect After Skin Needling

Most people find that the recovery time after skin needling is minimal. You can expect the treatment area to be red and slightly inflamed for 24-48 hours post treatment. During this time you’ll be advised to avoid using any irritating beauty products such as acids, retinol or skincare that’s highly perfumed or synthetic. Your skin will be extremely sensitive to the sun and UV rays, so using a sunblock is a must for at least one week after the procedure.

As your skin heals you may experience some light flaking, itching and roughness. This is perfectly normal and only lasts several days to a week. You will then start to see an improved freshness and glowing skin, which is smoother, plumper and more youthful-looking.

For the best results a minimum of three treatments spaced four weeks apart would be ideal.
