Massage therapy is a therapeutic practice used to improve an individual’s mental and physical health by manipulating body tissues. More specifically, massage therapy involves the manipulations of tissues such as the:

  • Muscles
  • Connective tissues
  • Tendons
  • Ligaments

Manually manipulating these soft tissues enhance a person’s health by relieving tension, promoting relaxation, and providing pain relief. Massage therapy has been shown to significantly enhance an individual’s emotional and physical well-being long-term.

*The metabolic rate of the body slows down.
*Breathing becomes more regular and the heart rate comes down to normal range.
*The blood lactate level also falls significantly. Lactate is responsible for the muscular fatigue.
 *Blood pressure decreases.
*Brain waves are altered in a beneficial way
*The body secretes protective mood altering neurotransmitters. One of these, known as serotonin, is a powerful hormone associated with feelings of happiness, contentment and relaxation.
*The relaxation induced through massage can be helpful in reducing anxiety.

Aromatherapy Massages

Aromatherapy massages use the application of therapeutic essential oils. It helps to release muscle tension and hydrates the skin providing immediate relaxation.

How does Aromatherapy work and what are the benefits?
The information from the aroma is sent to the Limbic system which connects with other parts of the brain – the hypothalamus and pituitary gland – which control your hormones. The aromas trigger a variety of chemical actions within your body, including the release of specific chemicals that relax, calm, stimulate and create a general feeling of well-being.

Benefits of Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage is a holistic therapy that treats the mind, body and spirit. When Essential Oils are applied to the body during a massage, these oils enter the skin through hair follicles where they are absorbed into the bloodstream and are circulated around the body. Aromatherapy has many benefits and can help to enhance mood to give you a feeling of well-being, reduce anxiety, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and relieve aches and joint pain.

“I had the opportunity to experience Jules’ aromatherapy massage therapy in my home. The massage was provided during a very difficult time in my life when I was carrying stress, grief and many other emotions in my neck, back and shoulders. Jules’ expert skill and care provided me with a feeling of deep relaxation and relief which was so needed. Jules provides her services in a gentle and respectful way that goes beyond massage. She is truly a healer.”
All the best.

Hot Stone Massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism.

Each Hot Stone Massage session promotes deeper muscle relaxation through the placement of smooth basalt stones.

The main benefit of Hot Stone Therapy is that it releases toxins from your body. When muscles are massaged, toxins are released. We advise that you drink plenty of water after each stone massage session to help flush out those unhealthy and unwanted toxins.

Therapeutic ultrasound is a modality that has been used by therapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel.

I can personally attest to the effectiveness of this treatment. After getting a torn ligament, I opted for ultrasound rather than surgery and it was a great success.

Therapeutic ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in:

healing rates

tissue relaxation

tissue heating

local blood flow

The effect of ultrasound can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing.

The most common conditions treated with ultrasound include soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis (or tendinitis if you prefer), non-acute joint swelling and muscle spasm. Most muscle and ligament injuries can benefit from therapeutic ultrasound.

How Does an Ultrasound Work?

The ultrasound waves are generated by a piezoelectric effect caused by the vibration of crystals within the head of the probe. The ultrasound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local soft tissues. This vibration or cavitation can cause a deep heating locally though no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as a fresh injury with acute inflammation, we would use cryotherapy first followed by ultrasound.

Chi Nei Tsang

Chi Nei Tsang was developed by Chinese Taoist monks thousands of years ago. This abdominal massage technique helped the monks work on their own body’s energy flow, known as Chi, so they could heal from within. It also aids detoxification and strengthens the organs and reduces stress and anxiety.

Abdominal Massage

With gentle manipulation of the organs, the Chi energy flow increases so the body can heal and function optimally.

Who would benefit from a Chi Nei Tsang treatment?

This therapy is for individuals with the following symptoms:

  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Constipation or indigestion
  • Mysterious abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Anxiety attacks, or
  • Colon blockage or build-up

How does it work?

Chi Nei Tsang (CNT) massage is performed on the belly (below the ribcage and above the pubic bone). CNT can treat most of the internal organs, like the lever, gallbladder and small intestines. We perform this technique on the three parts of the colon: ascending, transverse and descending.

Tens Therapy

TENS machine use electrical stimulation to block pain signals from reaching the brain. It also expands and contracts the muscles, providing a deep, effective massage. We start on a low intensity level and slowly increase the power till we find a suitable and comfortable level for you. You will feel the muscles contract as if they are being massaged. Use Tens therapy for a minimum of 30 minutes at a time. You will begin to feel relief from pain within a very short period of time. If you have found the idea of drugs or injections to reduce your pain an unhealthy option then Tens, ultrasound or hot stone massage may be the answer for you to  maintain a routine to ensure pain-relief long-term.
